Chelsea legend John Terry has deleted a tweet calling Roy Keane’s apparent refusal of a selfie “poor”.
Manchester United were at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium where they watched the New York Giants beat the Green Bay Packers 27-22 in one of the NFL games in London.
During ITV’s coverage of the match, a supporter could be seen approaching Keane to ask for a photo, but was eventually snubbed by the 51-year-old.
After the fan left, Keane could be seen shaking his head in disbelief, his arms firmly crossed as he remained seated in his seat.
However, it would appear that Keane, before sending her on her way, told the person to wait until after half-time for a picture, although it’s unclear if the couple actually ended up posing for the camera.
Laura Woods of talkSPORT, who was working for ITV on the day, said of the incident: “You have Roy Keane, Manchester United legend, what would you think you would do?
“Ask for a selfie? What would be the answer? That would be a hard no.
Woods shared a video of the clip on Twitter, where she joked, “My favorite part of Sunday. Don’t ask Roy for a selfie during a game.
Terry was quick to comment on his tweet, as he said, “It takes 2 seconds to get a pic with the fans. I think it’s poor.
To which Woods replied: “Ahhh John to be fair I think he said to wait until halftime so it probably looks worse than it is, it still made me laugh .”
Former Aston Villa defender Terry later deleted his tweet, possibly after realizing the fan may have gotten his wish.
Keane has made it clear in the past that he doesn’t like being approached by fans asking for photos.
He said: “Being in the public eye, I hate it, I hate it. There’s nothing worse than people coming up to you, but listen, people can be polite too.
“However, holding a phone to your face or tracking you with a camera is not enabled.
“If you said no to their request, people would think you were rude. I would go, ‘I’m the rude one? Are you coming to me with a phone?
“There are some very good fans – I ran into a United fan who showed me his tattoo and he just said ‘okay’ and carried on.
“I thought, he’s a real fan. People who invade your privacy with a phone or a shirt, I think they’re just annoying.
