The American’s schedule has been limited since suffering a series of serious injuries in a car crash in 2021.
Woods returned to action after last year’s tournament at the Hero World Challenge in December, completing all 72 holes in the Bahamas, but was forced to withdraw from February’s Genesis Invitational in California due to illness in seventh hole of the second round.
He did not participate in March’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, which he won eight times, nor in the Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship event, in which he triumphed twice.
When asked what he could accomplish in this context, Woods replied: “If everything falls into place, I think I can get one more,” adding with a smile: “Should I describe this more than that, or is that okay?”
In response to a question about withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational, Woods added: “I wasn’t ready to play. My body wasn’t ready, my game wasn’t ready.
“I thought that when I was at [the Hero World Challenge]once a month would be a really nice rhythm.
“It didn’t work out that way. But now we have major championships every month from here until July. So now we’re hoping that the once-a-month championships will come into effect.”
Woods will begin his first round on Thursday at 6:24 p.m. BST, alongside Australian Jason Day and American Max Homa.
