There are only four days left until the release of Taylor Swift Midnights arrives, and Swifties burns the midnight oil trying to decipher all the last possible clues left by the famously cryptic pop star. And now that Tay has revealed that “Anti-Hero” was the first single his tenth studio album fast approaching, they’re sure they’ve discovered a pattern proving which track will be next in line.
News of “Anti-Hero” came Monday morning (October 17 at the stroke of midnight, of course), when Swift posted an animated video to her social media revealing what she Midnights release week schedule will involve. At 8 a.m. on Friday, October 21, four hours after the album’s release, the singer-songwriter has plans marked on her calendar to unveil a music video for “Anti-Hero” — which she previously said it was one of her favorite songs she’s ever written – pretty much confirming the track is Midnights‘ first single.
The new video didn’t include any details about the second single beyond revealing that a second music video will be uploaded on October 25, but in Swifties’ eyes, that was unnecessary. Remembering that Swift did something a little strange when she first shared the title “Anti-Hero” in an October 2 TikTok, fans realized that she repeated the anomaly in a alone of his other TikToks: the announcement of the title for Midnights track eight, “Vigilante Shit”.
What was so special about these two specific videos? In all of her Midnight Mayhem with me messages – a series on her TikTok in which she randomly revealed the names of the 13 songs on Midnights – Swift whispered the titles into a red corded phone. But in the videos for “Anti-Hero” and “Vigilante Shit,” she held the phone upside down.
This led many fans to believe that the upside-down phone was not a repeat accident, but a clue planted by Swift to indicate which one. Midnights songs will receive the unique treatment, which often includes a corresponding music video. “SO REVERSE PHONE THINGS ARE SINGLES SO VIGILANTE SHIT IS THE SECOND SINGLE,” an excited Detective Swiftie tweeted in all caps.
“If the antihero gets a music video, that probably means vigilante shit gets one too WHAT,” another theorized.
