High-performance trucks and SUVs are the norm today. There are plenty of those from automakers, and aftermarket tuners like Hennessey have been playing in this space for years, creating some seriously bonkers machines. Carwow has one – the Hennessey Mammoth 1000 TRX – and the publication pits the truck against another powerful sibling, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
Both models use the same supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, but the engine produces significantly more power in the truck thanks to Hennessey’s various performance upgrades. The TRX now develops 1,026 horsepower (765 kilowatts) and 969 pound-feet (1,314 Newton-meters) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission powers all four wheels. The Jeep’s engine produces significantly less power, but it still produces 707 hp (527 kW) and 645 lb-ft (875 Nm) of torque. It also has all-wheel drive and an eight-speed gearbox.

The Jeep’s only advantage is its weight or lack thereof over the TRX. The Trackhawk tips the scales at 5,291 pounds (2,400 kilograms). The Hennessey weighs 7,054 pounds (3,200 kg), and it shows in the results.
The first race saw the Jeep blast off the line with launch control. This put the TRX at a disadvantage that it could not overcome, finishing in second place, far behind the Jeep. Race two was closer, with both drivers using launch control this time, but the Hennessey still finished second.
The first rolling race, with the vehicles in their most comfortable settings, resulted in the TRX’s first victory. He is able to get away from the Jeep, securing his victory. However, the jubilation was short-lived. The second rolling race, with the cars in their sportiest settings, earned the Jeep its third victory, which was not the last.
The Jeep also won the final brake test, but there wasn’t a big gap between the two competitors. The off-road tires and the extra weight of the truck didn’t help, but the Jeep had worn brakes. The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk and Hennessey Mammoth TRX are epic vehicles with tons of power on tap, and you wouldn’t want to meet them on the drag strip.
