Eddie Hearn got involved with Ryan Garcia’s father, Henry, following his son’s upset victory over Devin Haney on Saturday night.
Garcia Sr sparked a back-and-forth by calling Hearn “shit” while the Matchroom Boxing chief gave a backstage interview.
Ironically, Hearn was praising Garcia when his father yelled, “That’s what you got. You’re a piece of shit.”
Hearn responded: “Oh really? Fuck you. Fuck you, you little shit. What are you talking about?”
Garcia Sr then grabbed his crotch yelling, “Fuck you, you know you’re a piece of shit and that’s what you got.
“Now what are you going to say? Luke Campbell and Devin Haney, fuck you.
“Now who do you have?”
When Hearn refuted Garcia Sr’s point of view with Jaron Ennis’ name, Henry suddenly snapped out of his anger and went to shake Hearn’s hand as the two men called a truce in a bizarre turn of events.
Garcia Sr. may not have been happy during that fleeting moment behind the scenes, but he certainly will have been happy with what he saw of his son tonight.
“King Ry” was in fine form as he dropped Haney three times en route to a majority decision victory in front of a packed Barclays Center in New York.
Two judges scored the fight 114-110, 115-109 in his favor while a third judged it a draw at 112-112.
Haney had a lot of success on the outside with straight shots, however, Garcia was able to overwhelm “The Dream” with his power and speed sending his long-time amateur rival tumbling to the canvas in the seventh, ten and eleventh turns.
