Thiago Silva has dropped a huge hint about his future at Chelsea after further FA Cup heartbreak at Wembley this weekend.
The 39-year-old broke down in tears following the Blues’ FA Cup semi-final defeat to holders Manchester City on Saturday.
After joining the club in 2020, Brazilian Silva lost an FA Cup final to Leicester City at Wembley, before losing three times to Liverpool at the National Stadium.
With his contract expiring this summer, the veteran seemingly had one last chance to end his wait for a national trophy in England.
However, Bernardo Silva’s 84th-minute goal punished a wasteful Chelsea who all but ended their namesake’s hopes of glory under the arch.
The former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain defender has now hinted that his time at SW6 now appears to be coming to an end.
“You will know in the next few days,” a dejected Silva revealed after the match about his future.
“I don’t want to say anything now after a defeat.
“I’m sad about the result, but sooner or later the news will come out.
“I have a decision made in my mind, but now is not the time to share it.
“It’s not an individual sport, but my four years here have been very good. Not that I didn’t believe in myself, but with my age and the intensity of this league, it’s rare to see players high level at 39 years old.
“I don’t like talking about myself, but it shows. In the semi-final, I was ready to play extra time! I see that I still have a few years left to continue enjoying football.”
The 39-year-old also wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, in response to the late defeat: “It’s hard to describe in words how I feel now.
“We’re really sorry we didn’t make it, we left everything on the pitch. Proud of this group. Thank you all for never leaving us.”
Silva’s wife also hinted on social media that the former Brazil captain would leave Chelsea this summer.
His partner Belle called the FA Cup defeat to City his ‘last dance’ after sharing a photo of herself holding a Chelsea scarf at Wembley.
