KUALA LUMPUR, November 20 – National track cycling champion Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang did not reach the UCI Track Champions League (TCL) second round final in Berlin, Germany on Sunday November 20.
During the races at the Berlin Velodrome, the “Pocket Rocketman” finished in his favorite event, the keirin, in fifth place and therefore did not progress to the next stage because only the best two riders from three different rounds are qualified for the final.
World champion Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands won the keirin final while India’s Esow Alben finished second and Colombia’s Santiago Ramirez Morales third.
In the third moto of the first lap of the sprint event, Azizulhasni finished the challenge in last place behind Lavreysen who came out on top followed by Esow in second place.
Only the winners of six different heats qualify for the semi-finals.
Azizulhasni will continue with the remaining TCL races taking place in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France on November 26, followed by two back-to-back races in London on December 2-3. — Bernama
