Saudi Pro League chiefs’ hopes of luring Mohamed Salah away from Liverpool are fading, talkSPORT understands.
Liverpool are also confident Salah will extend his stay at Anfield, with new boss Arne Slot keen for the Egyptian to remain a key part of the team.
We told you how the Reds were preparing for a new approach from the Saudis after rejecting a bid of more than £100million from Al Ittihad last year.
Salah remains among their big targets to attract to the Saudi Pro League and follow in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema.
The Saudis are preparing an offer – lower than the initial offer – of around £70 million plus bonuses in case Salah becomes available this summer.
But it is understood that the Saudi leaders’ hopes of signing the 31-year-old in 2024 are dwindling, and it is accepted that Salah is likely to stay at Liverpool for another season.
Liverpool legend Graeme Souness had advised Salah to move to Saudi Arabia this summer, saying he had his “head turned”.
However, Salah appears happy to continue his seven-year love affair with the club.
This was despite his touchline argument with Jurgen Klopp as he prepared to come off the bench during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with West Ham.
Salah then claimed that “there would be fire” if he commented on what was said between the two men at the London Stadium.
But with Klopp’s departure at the end of the season, Salah will have a fresh start under the management of Slot, the Dutchman who agreed to replace the German in the dugout.
Salah joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, where he became one of the best players in the world.
He won every major honor for the club and scored 210 goals in 346 matches in all competitions.
Despite his struggles to get fit of late, Salah has still managed to contribute with 24 goals and 13 assists in 41 games this season.
