One of the most consistent qualities in Films by Wes Anderson are the big distributions that populate the original and often exaggerated productions of the director. Although none of the characters, plot details, or anything else on City of asteroidsThe Wes Anderson story has already been revealed by everyone involved in the production, Wes Anderson’s latest film has already started and finished principal photography. Back in August 2021, Hollywood journalist revealed that the cameras started rolling earlier this month. The mysterious shoot was due to end at the end of September. Deadline announced late additions to the cast in November 2021.
A few months earlier, in May 2021, the Spanish media El País published a detailed article on City of asteroids and the months of work by teams in the Madrid suburb of Chinchón to create large sets designed to resemble a Western landscape. Then in June 2021, Tilda Swinton, who had appeared in four Wes Anderson films before City of asteroids, revealed in an interview with Variety that even though the film was shot in Spain, it was not about Spain.
Fisher Stevens said the city of Asteroid had the “wildest cast” since the 1957 war epic The Bridge over the River Kwai
It was mentioned earlier that Wes Anderson films generally have many characters played by some of the best actors and actresses in show business. Well, according to comments made by one of the stars of City of asteroids – Fisher Stevens – in November 2021 Vulture interview, not only does Anderson’s latest photo surpass anything he’s done in the past, it’s also the best and craziest cast of any movie since the 1957 war epic The Bridge over the River Kwai, by declaring:
In case you were wondering, The Bridge over the River Kwai won seven of the eight Oscars for which he was nominated, including Best Actor for a Day reluctant Star wars Sir Alec Guinness icon. The film also starred William Holden, Jack Hawkins, Sessue Hayakawa (nominated for Best Supporting Actor), James Donald, Andre Morell, Peter Williams, John Boxer and several other notable stars.
Asteroid City set to be Wes Anderson’s sixth film to be scored by Alexandre Desplat
French composer Alexandre Desplat has worked with Wes Anderson on each of the director’s films since the 2009 release of The fantastic Mr. Fox and even won an Oscar for the sheet music he wrote for The Grand Hotel Budapest. Well it looks like there is a chance that Desplat and Anderson will work together again as the composer is expected to score City of asteroids. In November 2021, Film Music Journalist announced that Desplat would once again team up with Anderson on the mysterious feature film, although no further details were provided. Who knows, maybe the double Oscar winner (he won gold for The shape of water in 2018), will add another trophy to its prize list.
Asteroid City plot details have yet to be revealed
This last point is not necessarily known City of asteroids but remains interesting because of the mystery of the project. Along with the Tilda Swinton Variety interview published in June 2021, the outlet also revealed that Wes Anderson was “not ready to share details” about the film, leaving everyone to speculate. It looks like we’ll just have to wait (and speculate) until Anderson decides it’s a good time to open up on City of asteroids.
