Apple plans to revamp the Calculator app for macOS 15, according to a new rumor from AppleInsider.
Sources tell the site that Apple is currently testing a significantly improved version of the app, called “GreyParrot.” The code name apparently refers to the African gray parrot, known for its intelligence and cognitive abilities.
A key feature of the redesigned app is a history strip, in the form of a sidebar that displays previous calculations. A dedicated button at the top left of the application window could give users the option to toggle the history strip for the programmer’s basic, scientific, and calculator views.
Here’s an overview of the new features announced for the Calculator app…
● History strip: A new sidebar feature will display a preview of previous calculations, accessible via a button, allowing users to more easily track and refer to past calculations in all calculator modes (basic, scientific, programmer ).
● Redesigned user interface: The calculator will adopt a new look similar to its iOS counterpart, with rounded buttons and darker colors, moving away from the square design used since iOS 7.
● Adjustable Window Size: Users will be able to resize the calculator window as needed, which will automatically adjust the size and shape of the buttons in the app. This is a change from the current version where the window size is fixed depending on the selected calculator view.
● Math Notes integration: The Calculator app will integrate with the macOS Notes app to allow the creation of notes containing mathematical elements or notations, improving its functionality for more complex math tasks.
● Improved Unit Conversion: The update plans to integrate unit conversion directly into the main interface, enabling seamless calculations with automatic conversions. This will support simultaneous math operations and unit conversions, displaying the original and converted results together.
● Online currency conversion: The new calculator will require an Internet connection to retrieve real-time exchange rates for accurate currency conversions, aimed at users who frequently deal with multiple currencies.
Notably, the site also predicted that an updated Notes app will offer integration with the new Calculator app and Voice Memos.
