Smartphone owners don’t normally think of fonts. But if you really love to personalize and personalize your Android phone, fonts can help you a lot. A simple font change can make your whole Android system look fresh and different. On computers, installing a new font can be as easy as clicking a button or just pasting the new font files into the fonts folder, it’s slightly different on Android phones.
Fortunately, a number of smartphone brands include support for changing fonts; however, the number of fonts available can vary widely. If your smartphone doesn’t have built-in options for changing the font, there are third-party launchers that can help you customize the look a bit. Change system font with built-in tools
Smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, LG, Oppo, OnePlus, Vivo, and Xiaomi allow their users to change the system font. While other smartphone makers have a decent number of font options, OnePlus only offers two options – Roboto and OnePlus Slate.
We list the steps for changing the font on phones from some popular smartphone manufacturers below, but if you have a phone from another brand, you can try looking for an option under “display” or “themes”.
Change the font on Samsung phones
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Font and screen zoom.
- Select your choice of font style and you’re done.

Changing the font on Xiaomi phones
Xiaomi allows its users to download and install new fonts through the Themes app, but unfortunately the fonts are only available in certain regions like India and Hong Kong. If you don’t live in these regions, you can change your phone region to India and then download a new font. Changing the region also means that you will now get software updates for that region.
- Open the Themes application.
- To select Fonts.
- Choose and apply the font you want.
Change the font on Oppo phones
- Open the Theme Store. If the Theme Store version is earlier than 6.4, update the app.
- Tap the Font icon – it’s a T in a box.
- You can now download the font of your choice or try it out.
Changing the font on Vivo phones
- Open the Theme application.
- Tap the Font icon on the bottom bar.
- Choose the font you want and apply it. Most fonts are paid for on Vivo’s thematic store.
Change the font on OnePlus phones
- Go to Settings.
- Open Customization.
- Define the font you want.
Change the font on LG phones
- Open Settings.
- Go to Display.
- Press on Character font.
- Select the font you want or download other fonts from LG SmartWorld.
Use a launcher to change the font
If your phone doesn’t support changing fonts and you don’t want to root it, you can use a third-party launcher like Nova to change fonts. Unlike the built-in tools that change the font system-wide, launchers can only change the font for items in the launcher, not for the entire system.
Change fonts using Nova Launcher
- Open Nova’s Settings application.
- Now you can access the icon layout under the individual settings of the home screen and app drawer to change the font style.
- You will need to change the font for all three individually.
Likewise, other launchers also offer options to change the font in their settings.
Font apps for rooted phones
If you’ve got root access on your phone, you can use apps like FontFix and iFont to download and install new fonts on your phone. Both apps have hundreds of fonts to choose from. Make sure your phone is rooted before installing these apps, otherwise they won’t work for you.
If you are comfortable with a file explorer with root privileges (make a backup before continuing), you can also manually replace the TTF file in / system / fonts and change permissions to rw-rr. Remember to name the newly placed TTF file the same as the previous TTF file in this location and restart your device when you are done.
