Thomas Tuchel admitted Petr Cech’s impact at the club was missed at Chelsea, saying he ‘we miss him a lot’.
The Blues legend quit his role as technical and performance adviser following Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club earlier this summer.
Cech had played a key role in the club’s transfer efforts under former manager Marina Granovskaia, spending three years in that role.
His responsibilities were to provide advice and guidance on all football-related matters after making 333 appearances for the club, and according to Tuchel, his contribution both on and off the pitch has been a big miss for the club.
Speaking to the press, Tuchel said: “We miss him a lot.
“I’ve seen him in the past few days, and he knows from me directly that we miss him a lot. I know a lot of people miss him a lot.
“He was here on a daily basis in the training centre, and he was the person who embodied the values and attitude of what it takes to be a top competitor for Chelsea every day.
“He was very impressive, a huge help for me and a huge support that I had never experienced before, in all honesty. That is perhaps his main quality.
“In all his endeavors, he is humble and super honest. We had a fantastic relationship, but we have to respect his decision.
“Maybe now we have to sort things out, everything is new, the line of communication is new, everyone has to step up the staff, not just me, in responsibility. Here we go.
When asked if he was confident about bringing in new signings, Tuchel added: “It is what it is.
“We won’t panic and we won’t do anything [for the sake of it]. We will not try to sign players we are not 100% convinced of. All the signings so far are fantastic signings that help us.
“To be very honest, it’s now a day-to-day business of coaching the team that’s here and not losing your mind as a coach about what could be.
“What sense does it make if I lose my mind at the office and think about players who aren’t there?
We are ambitious and working hard to further strengthen our team, but we are calm, all the energy and ambition goes into the group that is here. We still have time. I may be able to answer this question more specifically in September.
