Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green isn’t happy with his team having to fight its way through the play-in tournament to reach the playoffs, but he understands the positive impact it has on the NBA.
“I hate the play-in, just so you all know. I absolutely hate it,” Green said on this week’s episode of Draymond’s green show before adding: “It’s the best thing ever created. If you look at the play-in and what it’s done for basketball, it’s the best thing ever created.”
The Warriors finished 10th in the Western Conference with a 46-36 record. They will need to get past the ninth-seeded Sacramento Kings on Tuesday before facing the loser of Game 7-8 between the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers for an opportunity to claim the top seed. series no. 8.
Green went on to explain that he believes the play-in tournament has improved the level of competition in the NBA, especially towards the end of the regular season.
“Since the NBA added play-in, the last month and a half of the season has reached a totally different level. Totally different,” he said. “So, I hate the play-in. I especially hate being the 10 seed. But as much as I hate it, as a basketball player, as a basketball fan, this play-in is crazy, and you have to love it.”
