According to a survey, JOHNNY Depp, Lady Gaga and Jeff Goldblum are the top fashion “scammers” because of their stylish features.
Anna Wintour, Pharrell Williams and Victoria Beckham also ranked among style inspirations thanks to their extravagant eyewear in a survey of 2,000 Brits.
While Tom Ford and Vivienne Westwood also made the top 10.
Anna Wintour’s sunglasses are particularly memorable because she is very rarely seen without them (62%).
While 57% identified Pharrell Williams’ glasses as unforgettable due to the unique shape and style of the frame.
Bianca Swan, style editor at Specsavers, who commissioned the study ahead of London Fashion Week, said: “Each one on this list is an icon in their own right – but their style has undoubtedly been enhanced by their glasses .
“Eyewear is not just an accessory, it is a statement that allows individuals to showcase their own personality and style.
“It’s great that celebrities are making glasses a popular fashion accessory.
“The connection between these icons and their glasses shows how differently people view glasses today.
“In a world where experimenting with self-expression can help us feel empowered, the purpose of glasses has become much more than helping us see better: they are a celebration of style and individuality.”
The study also showed that 54 percent of respondents now think wearing glasses is fashionable.
Nearly two-thirds (62%) say wearing them can make a person look more stylish.
A quarter of people who wear non-prescription glasses do so because they want to make a fashion statement.
Among those who wear glasses, 23 percent even admitted to being inspired by a celebrity who wears glasses when choosing their glasses.
More than half (56%) believe that society’s general perception of people who wear glasses has become more positive over the past ten years.
According to the OnePoll study, 70% of people surveyed believe that the fashion industry has become more effective at enabling everyone to find a pair of glasses that suits their personal style.
Whether they opt for a classic (35 percent), subtle (15 percent) or trendy (10 percent) eyewear style, 86 percent think everyone should feel confident wearing glasses, regardless of whatever the occasion.
Bianca Swan of Specsavers added: “Looking at these fashion icons, it’s clear that glasses aren’t just practical; they are a key part of personal style and make a statement about who you are.
“Take Anna Wintour for example, her frames are classic, yet memorable because they have become part of her iconic image and are instantly recognizable.
“It’s important to remember that whatever glasses you wear is a personal choice for you, as long as you feel comfortable and confident, that’s all that matters.”
