New updates are added at the bottom of this story …….
The original story (published July 08, 2021) follows:
The fast and accessible home internet, along with the falling prices of content streaming platforms fueled by competition, has allowed many users to jump into the content streaming craze.
Netflix, Hulu, and Prime Video are just a few of the popular services we have today – services that host some of the best content, original or not.
These services are often available on a variety of platforms, and HBO Max is available on almost any smart device, of course as long as you are in a supported region.
Now, it appears that part of HBO Max users are having issues with the streaming app on their Samsung smart TVs.
What is wrong with @hbomax?
I still have these screens on my TV but nothing happens when I click on them. It’s just going round and round. The iPhone app is working fine. It’s television only.

According to affected users, following the recent update of HBO Max app for Samsung Smart TV, the app does not load directly or TVs do not update the app at all.
The HBOMax app was working fine until tonight when I tried to run it as always on my TV (Samsung); I got the message on the screen that it was time to download the latest app update for HBOMax and that I was going to like it. I had no choice but to hit the download button for this latest biggest update to the HBOMax app. He could not complete the update because there was not enough space. My TV is only 3 years old, a Samsung smart TV.

From user complaints, it is evident that said recent update of HBO Max app for Samsung Smart TV is the cause of this issue.
These affected users are even more frustrated that this new update appears to be mandatory as there is no way to skip this version.
This is ridiculous – I had HBOMax which was working fine until your forced update didn’t work. Should I buy a new TV now just to have enough memory to run HBOMax? If I’m not the only one in this case, many TV owners will no longer be able to use HBOMax and many subscription cancellations.

At the time of writing, neither Samsung nor HBO Max have officially recognized this issue. However, the official HBO Max Twitter account responded to affected users, asking them to provide more information on this matter.
Hello, thank you for contacting us. We understand that you are having difficulty downloading the #HBOMax app to your Samsung TV and we will be happy to assist you. To help you better, please send us a DM with the model number of your Samsung TV. Thank you.

Update 1 (July 10)
Support for HBO Max is to suggest affected users to update the app or try reinstallation.
thank you for bringing this to our attention. If you receive a message asking you to update the app, but pressing the button does not update, we suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the app. When you reinstall it should be the most recent version.
Update 2 (July 12)
By responding to one of the affected users, HBO Max (Portugal) support has sharing the latest update is compatible with Samsung TVs 2017 or later.
Additionally, they have shared a few (translated) steps that you can try if you are having the issue in question:
Hi ! Our app is compatible with Samsung devices from 2017 or later.
-Open Smart Hub.
-Select and download HBO Max.
-Open HBO Max and sign in or choose Sign up now.
Update 3 (July 13)
As mentioned by many users, the problem is related to the lack of space on the Samsung TV, because the size of the latest app update is larger than usual. So removing some of the existing apps to empty space, reinstalling the app did the tower for some people. So you can also give it a shot.
Mine was due to insufficient storage on my Samsung TV. I freed up space by deleting several apps. Next, create a Samsung account and “reinstall” the HBO app.
Update 4 (July 17)
According to one of the reports, a cold restart may help resolve the issue. To do this, press and hold the power button on the remote control for 10 seconds. After that, your TV will restart automatically.
This will allow you to install the app.
