While Elden Ring seems to be one of the most critically acclaimed games in recent memory (currently at a very impressive 97 on Metacritic), it seems some video game developers aren’t impressed with the latest RPG from FromSoftware stock.
On Twitter, former Battlefield 2042 developer and current UX director at Ubisoft Ahmad Salama (Twitter profile is locked) pointed out that Elden Ring snagging a 97 average on Metacritic is “proof” that game reviewers don’t care about the game’s UX (user experience). In the same tweet, the developer of Nixxes Software (now a proprietary Sony studio) Rebecca Fernandez O’Sheaand Senior Quest Designer of Horizon Forbidden West Blake Recaps (Twitter profile locked) also threw shade by mentioning flaws in the game’s PC graphics, stability and performance, and even the Quest’s design.
Not only that, but Salama also adds that Elden Ring’s UX is so bad that he can only imagine FromSoftware devs smoking in their offices and even using CRT monitors.
While MP1st is one of the websites that gave Elden Ring a 10/10 score, I can confirm that we care about the UX of a game. I know it’s healthy competition and all , but to see the devs throwing shade at a game that’s acclaimed by gamers and critics just seems salty at this point.
Hopefully whatever Ubisoft shows us next in terms of an open-world sandbox experience will blow our minds.
