The next-generation Honda Pilot will debut before the end of the year, and the big reveal could be just around the corner. The latest teaser images offer the best look at the new SUV, which Honda is showing off in its TrailSport version, with the automaker promising it will be its most “all-terrain” SUV yet.
Honda is keeping specific details secret, but it has given some information on the Pilot TrailSport version. The SUV will make its first public appearance this week during the 2022 Austin City Limits music festival and will come standard with several rugged amenities. These upgrades include expanded all-wheel-drive capabilities, off-road-ready raised suspension, steel skid plates, front and rear recovery points, all-terrain tires and a full-size spare tire.
The driver in the teaser images wears a pixel art wrap for his Rebelle Rally 2022 outing which kicks off later this week. The reveal packaging gives a clear preview of the SUV’s design for the first time, dropping the camouflage and coating worn by the SUV in previous teasers. Up front, the SUV features a large single grille flanked by thin headlights and topped with a flat clamshell hood. Fog lights and vertical air vents frame a wide lower grille opening.
The rear design features large taillights joined by a trim piece that houses the “PILOT” lettering. Honda equips the SUV with dual rectangular exhaust pipes, a black roof spoiler and silver trim on the lower bumper. TrailSport badging adorns the grille and tailgate.
Powertrain details remain a mystery, with the current Pilot fitted with Honda’s 3.6-liter V6. It produces 280 horsepower (205 kilowatts) and Honda could use it in the next generation model. Honda pairs the engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission in today’s Pilot.
One thing Honda hasn’t teased is the Pilot’s interior, and we may not see that until the big debut. It should receive a thorough makeover like the exterior, with Honda likely giving the SUV a simpler interior design emphasizing digital displays for the driver and infotainment system. The 2023 Honda Pilot will make its debut before the end of the year.
