Taylor Swift Department of Tortured Poets The era has officially arrived!
The Grammy-winning star announced Thursday (April 18) that “Fortnight,” featuring Post Malone, will be the first single from her new album. The Department of Tortured Poets.
“I’m a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experiments and those melodies he creates that stick in your head forever,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “I saw the magic come to life when we worked together on Fortnight.”
Swift, 34, also announced that she and Malone, 28, will release a music video for the track at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, April 19, the same day as the album’s release.
“I honestly can’t wait for you to hear this song at midnight TONIGHT and see the video at 8 p.m. AND TOMORROW,” she wrote, alongside a black and white photo of her and Malone.
“Quinzaine” is the first song of Tortured poets, and only one of the two songs featuring another artist; the song “Florida!!!” stars Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine.
Swift announced the album, her 11th, in February during her acceptance speech for best pop vocal album at the Grammy Awards.
She recently announced that heartbreak would be a major theme of the album with five exclusive playlists that she shared with Apple Music, and also dropped some clues about the lyrics.
On April 8, the same day an eclipse hit North America, she shared the following sentence: “The crowd goes wild at their fingertips/Half moonlight, total eclipse.”
On April 16, Spotify hosted a pop-up exhibit in Los Angeles in which Swifties were able to wander through a library-themed room filled with subtle clues about the record, including new lyrics and images hinting to possible content.
The songs are written with Swift’s frequent collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, and Post Malone is listed as a co-writer on “Fortnight.”
The Department of Tortured Poets will be released on April 19 at midnight.
