He has been on hiatus from Good Morning Britain for the past eight weeks.
And Susanna Reid couldn’t help but give Richard Madeley a sneaky dig when he returned to the ITV show on Tuesday.
Speaking in his spare time, Richard, 66, said: ‘Has this place shrunk since I left? It’s smaller!

Pointing to the desk, he said: “They extended it for Covid, didn’t they?” We had to stretch it for miles and miles.
Susanna, 51, fired back: “Despite my insistence, we continue to sit miles and miles apart, they have brought us closer.”
Richard replied, “I thought you would be against it. You love your little bubble, don’t you…’

Susanna agreed, saying, “Yeah, I like to hold everyone at arm’s length.”
In an attempt to dissipate the tension, Susanna reached out to pat Richard on the shoulder.
She said, “Anyway, it’s nice to see you again.”
Richard stepped back and said, “Oh fuck, we can actually touch…”

Richard then explained his absence from the show, revealing that he was busy writing his novel.
He said, “I was finishing my novel and I just couldn’t do this show and finish the novel at the same time. I did and now I’m back.
Susanna said: “So you gave up life for the first shifts.
“Well, it’s absolutely lovely to see you again.”
She then offered her congratulations to him on becoming a grandfather after his daughter Chloe gave birth to a girl named Bodhi over the summer.
