Hower Built, a company that specializes in manufacturing retractable motorhomes and custom motorhome projects, has introduced a new product that would likely thrill truck owners who yearn for an adventure with their rigs.
It’s called base camp, and it’s probably the tallest pop-top RV we’ve ever seen, making it a very spacious living space. Best of all, it fits any pickup truck, with the ability to sleep two people and support up to 300 pounds of weight above the sunroof.

For starters, the Base Campe weighs just 400 lbs, thanks to its aluminum frame. Its electronically controlled scissor lift opens up to 6 feet, 5 inches of interior headroom, while the motorhome itself is 112 inches in length. The pop-top motorhome comes in standard and XL widths, which should fit any pickup truck and can even be tailored to your truck, according to Hower Built. For those who enjoy off-road adventures and prefer to stay the next night, this should be a good addition to your rig.
That said, the base camp can accommodate a 3 inch queen mattress. When the sunroof is lowered there is a 6 inch cavity which means pillows and blankets can stay on the bed. The aluminum frame is also paired with composite panels, especially baffle ABS panels, which have an R5 insulation rating.
In addition to the space and materials mentioned, the base camp also has interior equipment such as eight LED ceiling lights with dimmer, several USB ports and 12 V sockets, a 100 amp hour lithium battery. It’s also pre-wired for solar panels, so it’s an off-grid option you can take.
The Hower Built Base Camp has a starting price of $ 14,000, which can be higher depending on the features and demands that customers may have. The company currently requires a minimum deposit of $ 1,000, with delivery slated for Spring 2022.
