A new rumor has surfaced regarding a few Marvel movie projects that Sony Pictures is reportedly developing. According to The Streamr’s Caiden Reedthe studio is developing the Doctor Octopus and Mysterio films.
The biggest problem with this rumor is that it looks like Sony is planning to recast Otto Octavius and Quentin Beck. They say the studio is watching Hannibal’s Hugh Dancy to play Doc Ock, who was played by Alfred Molina. We don’t know who could take over Spider-Man: Far From Home star Jake Gyllenhaal like Mysterio.
The big question with this rumor is: Is Sony Pictures really incapable of recasting these characters into solo films? I mean, they haven’t made a true Marvel villain movie yet, with Venom and Mysterio both being extremely disappointing franchises.
There are no additional details on what might be happening here, but hopefully this rumor turns out to be bullshit. If Sony wants to try to make Marvel movies that have a chance of being successful, make new Spider-Man movies with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield!
I simply have no interest in seeing Doc Ock and Mysterio’s stories retold again. What do you think? Would you be open to the idea?
