Sir Elton John is reportedly “working on top secret new music” which is due out before the end of the year.
The music icon, 76, retired from touring in the summer of 2023 and took to Glastonbury’s famous Pyramid stage for the final UK show of her Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Elton has been churning out hit after hit since the 1960s, with his last album, titled Regimental Sgt. Zippo, released in 2021.
And now a report suggests the megastar is back in the studio working on a new album – news that will certainly delight fans.
“It was all very secretive but Elton is back in the studio working on a new album,” a source told The Sun.
“Deadlines are always moving, but Q4 has been set in terms of release date.”
The source added: “He loves music and that will never change, but the desire to be as busy as he was has diminished.
“Elton will still have a Rocket Hour radio show on Apple Music and the finger is still listening; he just wants to slow down a little and spend time with his family but the new album is coming.
The singer-songwriter joined one of the entertainment industry’s most exclusive clubs in January when he became an EGOT holder after winning an award at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
Elton won in the Outstanding Variety Special category for his well-received Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.
But despite this monumental achievement, Elton was not present in person in Los Angeles to receive the award, as he had to take time off from the show due to his recent knee surgery – after being injured in a fall while he was on vacation in France.
Elton had spent the summer of 2023 in France with his husband David Furnish and their two sons after finishing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in July.
Although at the time Elton didn’t rule out releasing new music in the future, he decided to step away from touring to spend more time with David and their children.
He said: “Touring is exhausting for me now and it takes me away from my family and my children. »
However, Elton added that he hasn’t given up performing for good and will probably still play “weird shows” from time to time.
Family is important to Elton, who previously called his sons “the biggest thing” in his and husband David’s lives.
Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2016, he said: “If you told me ten years ago, I would be sitting on your show, married to the man I love and having two beautiful children, I would have said: “You put acid in my drink.
“But life throws you challenges and life throws you curveballs – great curveballs – and these two kids came at a time when I never thought I would have kids.
“There are no words to describe how much we love these boys. They are simply incredible.
On his 75th birthday, Elton wrote a letter to his sons published in Time magazine in which he called them “his proudest achievements.”
He wrote: “Zachary and Elijah, you are both the greatest gifts I have ever been given.
“You have filled my heart with love and my life with purpose and meaning in ways I didn’t think possible.
“You are my proudest accomplishments, and I love you so, so much…Whoever you become, just be yourself – fully and completely yourself.”
