We’re not sure what to make of this strange new idea from Renault. We mean this in terms of both name and concept, but we’ll say it a lot. Both attract attention, and in this industry, as long as you are not street racing or indulging in sketchy emissions testing activities, drawing attention is generally a good thing.
And you know what? Calling something a Hippie Caviar hotel doesn’t just grab attention, it requests he. What is all this? It looks like Renault has a plan for a cool motorhome that will debut in the near future, as a concept anyway. Yes, the name is true, but don’t let the words spin it around – this is a Renault Trafic commercial van fitted with typical and decidedly atypical adventure equipment for a camping vacation. In other words, as long as your camping vacation includes a concierge service with drone deliveries while you relax on the rooftop terrace.

As this is only a teaser, Renault doesn’t offer a clear overview of its idea for a Hippie Caviar hotel, but we’re told it’s based on a luxury five-star hotel experience for the road. As such, expect chic materials and exotic woods in the interior, mixed with soft colors. Renault says Japanese paper-effect “washi” paints are part of the formula, and yes, there really is a roof terrace. It consists of a coffee table with removable backrests and is accessible by a ladder.
You might not want to go up, as the ground level looks quite chic on its own. A daybed converts into a bed that can be installed inside or outside the back of the van, where it is surrounded by drapes for a bit of privacy. However, the most drastic feature of the Hippie Caviar hotel is not at all related to the van. Rather, it is a big “logistics container” that van owners can have delivered wherever they go. It comes with a full bathroom as well as batteries for electricity, and if that seems just as inconvenient for camping as remote drone deliveries, you’re right, but hey, it’s a concept.
Renault plans to unveil the Hippie Caviar hotel at the 2021 Düsseldorf Caravan Show, which opens on August 27. The idea is certainly crazy, but it should preview Renault’s less extravagant plans for a more targeted range of minivans in 2022, coinciding with the arrival of Electric Traffic.
