Kansas prosecutors are asking a judge to drop three criminal charges against Jackson Mahomes, according to the Associated Press. Mahomes allegedly grabbed a woman by the neck and kissed her against her will on February 25, 2023, at a facility in suburban Kansas City.
Assistant Johnson County Prosecutor Megan Ahsens filed a motion Tuesday to dismiss the three counts of aggravated sexual assault Mahomes faces. Mahomes, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also faces a misdemeanor battery charge related to the incident.
Tuesday’s court filing said prosecutors received an affidavit from Vaughn’s attorneys saying she refused to testify in the case.
In a statement, Mahomes’ attorney, Brandan Davies, said Mahomes “did nothing wrong. We had every confidence that the truth of the matter would ultimately be revealed.”
The alleged incident occurred at the Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Overland Park, Kan., a suburb of Kansas City. Investigators said Mahomes pushed a server who was trying to enter the room where he was with the restaurant’s owner, Aspen Vaughn. After the waiter left, Mahomes allegedly grabbed Vaughn and kissed her three times without her consent, according to prosecutors.
Vaughn informed police that Mahomes was a friend of his stepdaughter and had been asked to leave restaurants in the past. The restaurant closed in August following publicity surrounding the case and was even vandalized after Mahomes’ accusation.
