Nicki Minaj performed at the Bell Center in Montreal on Wednesday April 17. However, the rapper didn’t appear on stage until well after 11 p.m., almost three hours after the show was scheduled to start.
Minaj, who is currently on it Pink Friday World Tour 2, worried Montreal fans after an hour without news from the rapper. When the two-hour mark arrived and Minaj still wasn’t in attendance, ticket holders began posting news of the artist’s delay on TikTok and Twitter.
As fans grew increasingly concerned that the Bell Center would end up canceling the show, even though it was a sold-out concert, Minaj was quick to clear things up online and confirm that ‘she would actually go on stage.
It turns out Minaj was late for reasons most of us could never relate to: her private plane service took off much later than expected.
“Today we [Minaj and team] asked if we could leave at 1 p.m. They [the private jet] they said no, we could leave at 3 p.m. Then they said it wouldn’t work, that we would have to leave at 5 p.m.?!?!!!!! Yeah. For a 9:30 p.m. show in Canada,” Minaj wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
After boarding the plane, Minaj said they were forced to wait even longer for the plane to finish “refueling.” Unfortunately, the setbacks did not stop there.
Upon arriving in Canada, Minaj claimed she underwent checks she was not required to do during her last two visits, saying customs began searching her personal belongings.
Minaj said the sequence of events that took place before her Montreal concert was “sabotage.”
Minaj tweeted all of this at 11:02 p.m., assuring fans that she would be on stage in “15 minutes.”
The show was scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. and Minaj finally arrived on stage around 11:30 p.m. Despite the delay, Minaj performed her full set and couldn’t have enjoyed her stay in Montreal more. “Gag City Montreal was absolutely perfect,” Minaj wrote in another X post.
Fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, saying that regardless of Minaj’s punctuality, or lack thereof, the show was still a smash hit.
Luckily, Minaj will have a much easier start to her Toronto show tonight at Scotiabank Arena now that she’s cleared customs.
