The NFL is littered with major contributors who were originally cut, dropped, or released by another club, so cutback day doesn’t signal the end of the football days for everyone.
Raheem Mostert went undrafted in 2015, then was cut by six different teams before landing as a feature in San Francisco with the 49ers. Isaiah McKenzie was waived mid-season by the Broncos in 2018. He enters the 2022 season as Buffalo’s starting catcher.
Teams have until 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday to reduce their roster size to 53 players, and I’m tracking the released players most worthy of being added by another club. I’ll continue to update this tracker as more moves come in on Tuesday – those 53 player rosters are far from final.
Below you’ll see these players, with information on the team that released them, the round in which they were drafted – if any – and a link to their Mockdraftable spider table, which shows how they have been tested on the combine or on their pro day. when they were prospects.

Draft status: Round 2 – 2015
Positional athletics: Above average
Safeties with Tartt’s level of experience and productivity are not available every August. He played in 80 regular season games for the 49ers starting in 2015 and amassed four picks with 18 pass breakups and an average of 56 total tackles per season.
A hardened safety best viciously attacking midfield and the line of scrimmage, Tartt’s type of safety has recently become all the rage in the NFL. He had five tackles and a sack in Super Bowl LIV. At just 30 years old, Tartt should have plenty of suitors on the open market. Because he’s a vested veteran — more than four years accumulated in the NFL — he’s not subject to waivers and can sign with another team immediately.

Draft status: Round 6 – 2021
Positional athletics: Well below average
Newsome was my #TrustTheTape prospect in the 2021 class. He tested horribly. On the North Carolina court, Newsome was electric. Newsome produced in all four seasons for the Tar Heels and had over 1,000 yards with 10 touchdowns as a junior in 2019.
He was a member of this article last year, in fact, when the Bears released him before the 53-man reduction. He was signed to Chicago’s practice squad and caught two passes for 23 yards in a few late-season spot appearances. Now his 2019 season in the ACC has been rendered mostly irrelevant, and his bad combination seems more like to have been a strong indicator that Newsome just isn’t athletic enough to win consistently as a wide slot. in the NFL. After a solid minicamp and flashes in training camp, Newsome had just two for 27 yards in the preseason. It is worth figuring out as a gadget type slot receiver.

Check the 2021 punter stats — net punt average, that is — and you’ll see Martin near the top. His 42.8 average was the third-best in football, and his 28 punts taken down inside 20 tied for fifth in the NFL. Year-over-year consistency is vital for bettors, and in each of the last three seasons, Martin has finished 12th or better in net average. For a club looking to improve the betting position, Martin should be the No. 1 priority. Bettors are people too, remember.

Draft status: DUFA – 2015
Positional athletics: Medium
McGill has been on 11 NFL teams since entering the league in 2015. Yes, 11 teams, and that included several stops in Philadelphia and with the Chargers. Yet before he turned 30, McGill had eight quarterback pressures on just 28 quick passes this preseason. McGill recently suffered an ankle injury, but a crafty veteran with pass throwing juice being available, like this time of year on the football calendar? It should and will be a rare commodity.
