Confession time: we don’t want American idol finish. We haven’t actually watched it, but the series has been responsible for some of Katy Perry’s best fashion looks to date. From the sculptural metal shark crop top (even with the wardrobe malfunction, it was still a style killer in my opinion) to her Y2K revival by layering a corset dress over flares. And, when the series undoubtedly ends, so will the usual outfit photos she shares on Instagram of all its members. Idol looks like this is Katy’s last as a judge *sob*.
Until then, we’ll get the most out of each new adjustment. Starting with the artist’s latest ensemble, a black leather look accessorized with a belt from which hangs all the keys Katy might have owned. We’re talking car keys, door keys, key fob tags and more, some hanging on top of each other to create long chains.
The belt is actually attached to the black leather skirt which features a completely open side and is an iconic design element of the XI SCORPII. The Central Saint Martins design graduate regularly incorporates keys into her womenswear collections, with Solange Knowles previously wearing the same skirt and belt combo.
The resulting effect is a very fashionable version of the uniform of a handyman or landlord, responsible for each apartment in a high-rise building. This is what we call “locksmith chic”.
Katy completed the look with an equally statement top in the form of a custom black leather strapless torso from ABOMÉ Studio by Amanda Borgfors Mészaros. Opaque black tights and black heels added the finishing touch.
Yes, Katy is in her fashionable days and we don’t mind.
