Washington’s commanders had one of the most interesting preliminary visits for top prospects. Washington hosted more than 20 visiting prospects last week, part of the process was getting all of those players to “TopGolf.”
Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy – three players expected to be in the top 10 – were part of that group that rocked the golf club. Perhaps I liked the unconventional approach taken by the commanders.
“It was one of the coolest tours I’ve taken,” Maye said. via Omaha Productions. “We went to a steak dinner and you’re surrounded by the head coach, the general manager and the quarterbacks coaches. They brought us all together to see how we interacted and I got a chance to swing a little the golf club.
“I enjoyed it. I met a lot of different guys throughout the process. I think it was a really cool experience for me. We all had our separate time to meet the coaches that we needed, so It’s not like we did it. I can’t do any of that. We just have to have fun the night before.
“They changed it. I thought it was pretty cool.”
NFL agent Ron Butler, who represents Daniels, suggested he was not a fan of that approach. by liking a post on “X”. Commanders general manager Adam Peters has taken the approach from his years with the San Francisco 49ers, making sure visiting players have a different experience than the norm this time of year.
“It’s been very beneficial to see everyone in a more relaxed environment,” Peters said, via the Washington Post. “They all spent a lot of individual time with their coaches, with us, where they were also coming in on a staggered basis, so it wasn’t like they were sitting in a room together. They all had their own individual time with everything the world. So it worked very well.”
The meeting was different, and it will be fashionable in the NFL if the Commanders find their franchise quarterback at No. 2.
