What’s the worst that can happen in your morning commute? An accident? Heavy traffic? Low fuel level? Late ? Apparently that would be a flat tire for more than 30 commuters on a California highway – all at the same time.
As reported by Eyewitness News, vehicles were seen stopped along the 405 Freeway near Mulholland Drive in Los Angeles. All have had punctures, with at least 36 vehicles on the side of the road presumably pulling out their spares (or tire repair kit). No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crashes were caused by “a box of nails or blocks of wood that may have fallen from a truck.” Officials believe this did not appear intentional. However, several people in the comments section of the video thought otherwise.
One comment reportedly came from a former tire technician, who recalled a time when his supervisor asked him to grab some nails and throw them out the window. He then warned people that there were a lot of shady companies out there.
Another comment cited the fact that construction sites often have nails and screws in the street, which should be a similar form of danger to road users. One person also said it could have been fatal, which we totally agree with.
Whether this incident was intentional or not, it’s up to the California Highway Patrol to find out. Needless to say, this is a reminder that highway users should always be wary of debris as it poses a potential hazard to cars and their occupants – worse for motorbikes. At highway speeds, the resulting crashes could be fatal, making the incident above criminal in nature if found to be intentional.
