Today is the second Tuesday of the month, making it Patch Tuesday, the day all supported Microsoft software is updated. In addition to several versions of Windows 10, there is a version of Windows 11 that is getting a patch today.
If you are using Windows 11 version 21H2, which is the only one shipped, you will get KB5011493, bringing the build number to 22000.556. You can download it manually here.
There is only one strong point:
The full list of fixes isn’t very long either:
- Addresses a known issue that occurs when you attempt to reset a Windows device and its apps have folders containing scan data, such as Microsoft OneDrive or Microsoft OneDrive for Business. When you select Delete everything, files that were downloaded or synced locally from Microsoft OneDrive may not be deleted. Some devices may take up to seven (7) days after installing this update to fully resolve the issue and prevent file persistence after a reset. For immediate effect, you can manually trigger the Windows Update Troubleshooter by following the Windows Update Troubleshooter instructions.
Not surprisingly, the changelog is short. Patch Tuesday updates tend to be like this, with a much longer changelog in week C and D updates. Of course, these fixes are rolled into the Patch Tuesday update, hence the word “cumulative” in the name of the update.
One issue that has been fixed is a bug where files may still be present after resetting a Windows PC. This issue only affected files synced in OneDrive and it was discovered last month.
As usual, this update is mandatory. This means that while you can install it manually through Windows Update now, it will install automatically at some point if you don’t.
