We’re coming to the end of the month and that means it’s time for Microsoft to release the preview builds of Windows Updates that will be released on Patch Tuesday. As such, the company has released the preview update KB5008353 for Windows 11, fixing dozens of issues.

The list of changes, fixes, and improvements included in this optional non-security update is quite long, but there are a few specific highlights. Among the most significant changes are fixes for Bluetooth audio issues, as well as fixes for Windows 11 taskbar issues that caused app icons to appear unnecessarily.

The update also fixes another taskbar issue that causes the volume icon to say sound is muted when it isn’t, as well as fixing an auto-hide issue with the taskbar.

KB5008353 is an optional update that you can install using Windows Update or by downloading it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Microsoft draws attention to the following highlights of the update:

  • Updates an issue that causes the audio service to become unresponsive on some devices that support hardware-accelerated Bluetooth audio.
  • Updates an issue that affects app icons when apps are not running. In the taskbar, these icons may appear as active as if the applications were running.
  • Add a new Your Microsoft account page to the Accounts category in Windows settings for Home and Professional editions.
  • Updates an issue that incorrectly shows the volume icon in the taskbar as muted.
  • Updates an issue that prevents a device from working when connected to multiple displays.

  • Improves auto brightness to provide better response in low light conditions on all supported systems.
  • Updates DST to start in February 2022 instead of March 2022 in Jordan.

  • Addresses an issue that affects applications written to only integrate with Azure Active Directory (AAD). These applications will not work on Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) joined machines.
  • Addresses an issue that could cause the Get-TPM PowerShell command fails when trying to report Trusted Platform Module (TPM) information. The command fails with error “0x80090011 Microsoft.Tpm.Commands.TpmWmiException,Microsoft.Tpm.Commands.GetTpmCommand”.
  • Addresses an issue that causes a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) session to disconnect or display a blank screen for Server Core. This issue occurs when you install the AppCompat feature.
