Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Women’s Basketball Head Coach Danielle Santos Atkinson announced the hiring of Michael Morgan as assistant coach (daytime) morning. Morgan will join other assistant coaches Aaron Swinson and Yolande Cole on the sidelines for the next 2022-23 season.

Morgan brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Hofstra bench. Morgan comes to Hempstead after a six-year tenure as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, where he began his time with the Lady Bulldogs in June 2016. At Alabama A&M, Morgan was responsible for coordinating all recruiting activities, in addition to helping his student-athletes earn over 40 All-SWAC academic honors and developing the post-player positional squad, including All-SWAC selection at three times and first-team HBCU 2020 BOXTOROW All-American Dariauna Lewis. The Lady Bulldogs qualified for the SWAC Tournament five times during Morgan’s tenure in Huntsville.
Prior to his move to Alabama A&M, Morgan spent three seasons as an assistant basketball coach at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi, from 2013 to 2016. His duties at EMCC included coordinating all activities recruitment, as well as the design and implementation of daily muscle building and skill development workouts for the team. The Lions were in the playoffs for the three years Morgan was on the sidelines.
Morgan’s college coaching career began in 2012-13, where he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. While serving as the program’s scouting coordinator, he was also responsible for opposition scouting, as well as day-to-day development of the team’s post and perimeter players.
His first steps into the world of basketball coaching came at Oldsmar Christian School in Tampa, Florida, where he served as the head coach of women’s basketball from 2008 to 2013. Morgan finished with a overall record of 85-24 and has made 65 student-athletes recipients of post-secondary athletic scholarships. He also served as an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team and helped guide the team to consistent top-10 national rankings.
Morgan began his college basketball career at North Carolina A&T University before transferring to North Carolina Wesleyan College for his sophomore year. Morgan ended up at Trinity College of Florida, based in New Port Richey, Fla., in 2007, and found immediate success on the basketball court, earning first-team South Region honors and was a runner-up. South Region Player of the Year for the 2007-08 season. In 2008-09, he concluded his playing career with an honorable mention selection from the All-South region.
A native of Tampa, Florida, Morgan earned his undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies with a Youth Emphasis in 2012. Morgan is married to his wife, Sharon.
