In January, Miley Cyrus was announced as one of the participants in Everybody Gets Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads Stopping Making Sensefeaturing artists from different genres singing songs by members of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame talking heads. At the time, the song Miley covered wasn’t announced, but it’s now official.
Miley recorded one of Talking Heads’ iconic songs, “Psycho killer.” On her Instagram story, she is posted an excerpt of its cover, revealing that she transformed the original new wave song – written from the perspective of, yes, a psychopathic killer – into an upbeat dance banger.
Fans suspected that “Psycho Killer” was the song Miley recorded because in March, a video posted to social media showed her singing the song at the Chateau Marmont, with new lyrics: “I love you psycho killer /I will love you. forever/You know I’ll never run away.
The tribute album, which will be released on May 17, celebrates the 40th anniversary of the release of Jonathan DemmeIt is Stop making sense, the legendary 1984 Talking Heads concert film, often considered one of the best concert films ever made. In addition to Miley, other participating artists include Paramore, Lord and the rock band The Nationalincluding Taylor Swift collaborater Aaron Dessner.
Miley’s involvement in the Talking Heads project comes as no surprise since she is friends with the group’s frontman, David Byrne. He performed in her 2023 New Year’s Eve special on NBC, joining her for several songs, including a cover of David Bowie“Let’s dance.”
