UFC 280 also features bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling defending his title against TJ Dillashaw, and Petr Yan taking on rising star Sean O’Malley. But amidst all these big matchups, there’s another can’t-miss lighthearted fight on the main card between Beneil Dariush and Mateusz Gamrot.
Order UFC 280: Oliveira vs. Makhachev today!
UFC veteran Dariush came to the UFC in 2014 undefeated, with just one decision win to his name. Winning eight of his first 10 fights inside the Octagon, Dariush was poised to rise, and it wouldn’t be long before fans saw him in the rankings as an elite contender. Then, in March 2017, Dariush went on an unfortunate 12-month streak that saw him winless in three straight fights, including two knockout losses to Edson Barboza and Alexander Hernandez.
Then came a resurgence. A string of bonus-winning performances and scoring finishes Dariush directly in the ranking. The last time fans saw him inside the Octagon was in May 2021, against seasoned and still dangerous veteran Tony Ferguson. Testing his fight against a feared submission threat, Dariush said he could overpower most opponents if the fight hit that mat, racking up over 12 minutes of control time in the fight over three rounds.
