talkSPORT’s Danny Murphy has left Jim White dismayed by admitting he wouldn’t trade his Community Shield win for an Olympic gold medal.
The prestigious international sports tournament returns this summer to Paris, with football being one of the 32 sports on offer.
French superstar and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe has said it would be a “dream” for him to represent his country at the games.
But former Liverpool midfielder Murphy doesn’t have as much respect for the Olympics, even though winning gold is considered one of the biggest prizes in sport.
When asked about White and Jordan if he would cherish a gold medal, he replied: “No, I don’t care, most football players would tell you the same thing.”
And when asked about Mbappé’s confession of “dream”, he replied: “What? Ok, you could have a strange exception, are these the same footballers who complain about playing too many matches?

“You can’t do it one way… the reality is you play for Real Madrid, you think if GB had a team Madrid would let Jude Bellingham play? You think it’s going to be something they want ‘he comes back injured?’
Host Jim White then asked if he would trade his 2003 League Cup medal with Liverpool for Olympic gold, but Murphy replied: “Absolutely no chance, no chance. That doesn’t mean anything in football .
“For many years, the Olympic Football Games have been an opportunity for South American teams to take on their young superstars, the U21/23 teams, and go play football.”
And when asked if he would do the same with his 2001 Community Shield medal, he once again replied with a resounding: “No”.
“Oh what?!” White responded incredulously, clapping his hands and releasing his chair as the expert offered a wry smile.
Murphy explained his reasoning, however: “We beat Man United in front of 80,000 people, so no chance.”
But when White asked if he knew where the medal was, the former Liverpool player laughed and replied: “I have no idea.”
Team GB have not fielded a men’s team since the London 2021 matches and the women’s team failed to qualify for a place in Paris.
The Brazilian men won at Tokyo 2020 but will not defend their crown as they too did not qualify, with the Canadian women arriving as defending champions.
