He fights in an extremely difficult C segment where the Volkswagen Golf reigns supreme. To keep their compact car fresh and competitive, the South Koreans have now given it a mid-cycle update with an assortment of styling changes.

Opt for the five-door sedan in the GT-Line or the GT flagship finish and your Ceed will also feature redesigned taillights with no less than 48 honeycomb-shaped elements covered in smoked glass. The rear groups have dynamic lights because the LEDs light up in a progressive sequence when the turn signals are activated.

To complete the changes, new models of 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels as well as four new body colors: Experience Green, Yucca Steel Gray, Usiné Bronze and Lemon Splash.
The changes are less obvious inside where you’ll find the same 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster joined by a 10.25-inch touchscreen. Five upholstery choices will be available – three of which make their debut with the facelifted version – as well as a new shift knob for the GT-Line and GT versions.
Tech-wise, the revamped Ceed receives wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by a USB charging port in the center console for rear passengers. Heated front and rear seats are available, along with dual-zone automatic climate control and an eight-speaker JBL audio system.
The engine lineup includes the usual suspects, starting with a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine producing 120 horsepower. It comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (with freewheel function) and boasts a 48V mild hybrid setup to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. The same three-pot is available in a 100bhp dual-fuel version by accepting LPG, while a 1.6-liter diesel boasts an output of 136bhp and also has a mild hybrid setup.
Available with the wagon, the plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 1.6-liter GDI (gasoline direct injection) engine with a 44.5 kilowatt electric motor, an 8.9 kWh lithium-polymer battery and a dual clutch six-speed. automatic. The PHEV station wagon delivers a combined output of 141 hp and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. In EV mode, it has enough battery power for 36 miles (58 kilometers).
Those who need more oomph will need to upgrade to the 1.5-liter gas mill with 160 hp or the slightly larger 1.6-liter reserved for GT models where it pumps 204 hp and is tied exclusively to the seven-speed DCT.
Kia will begin production of the Ceed 2022 facelift in August at its plant in Žilina, Slovakia, and begin deliveries to customers by the fourth quarter. The revised lineup includes the hatchback, wagon and the sleek Proceed, with the XCeed crossover likely benefiting from those styling revisions at some point next year.
