Former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverly has made an interesting claim about troubled Red Devils star Cristiano Ronaldo. Although he believes the prolific No.7 has a ‘big role’ to play at the club, he is no longer a player who can help win major titles.
Ronaldo is considering an exit from Manchester United, less than a year after making a sensational return to Old Trafford. While he finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 24 goals in 38 games in all competitions, United’s overall performance fell short. They finished a modest sixth in the points table, recording their worst point total (58) in a season.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored 24 goals for Manchester United last season. 22 of those goals were either game openers, game equalizers or game winners. Madness. https://t.co/kbRGiry9KG
Unconvinced by United’s ability to compete for trophies and the club absent from the UEFA Champions League this season, Ronaldo wants to pull through. However, no club have made a bid for him yet, with the summer transfer window ending in less than three weeks.
The Portuguese came off the bench in the club’s Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. However, he couldn’t prevent his team from losing 2-1 at home.
Considering his propensity for scoring goals, Ronaldo should be back in his goalscoring shoes soon. Nonetheless, Cleverly believes Ronaldo is now incapable of winning league and league titles. speaking to Talksportcleverly said:
“Do I think he helps them get Champions League football? For sure. It’s no longer a No 9 that’s going to win you Champions Leagues and leagues, but I don’t think that’s where United are at. I think he definitely has a big role to play for the club. Without his goals, they will have even more trouble. As for the long term, they need to find a different path, and they’re struggling in the market right now. »

Manchester United’s new season gets off to a bad start
Despite all the hype surrounding their revival under new manager Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s new season has gone by with a whimper.
It was another disappointing display as United were all over the place at the back and struggled to create meaningful attacking chances up front.

Even the introduction of Ronaldo in the second half didn’t help matters. The Portuguese was devoid of proper service and now has to seriously reconsider his future.
The loss laid bare the enormity of the task ahead of Ten Hag, so it’s worth seeing how the team bounces back. United travel to Brentford on Saturday August 13.
