Amber Heard is celebrating her 38th birthday in Spain after the actress moved to the countryside for a quieter life.
Amber has decided to move to Madrid with her daughter Oonagh Paige Heard, who has just celebrated her third birthday, following her explosive defamation trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp. Amber has kept a low profile since the end of the trial, which saw a jury return a verdict in Johnny’s favor.
The Aquaman star previously said there was too much “chaos” following the verdict, leading her to move to Spain. Here, we took a look at Amber’s new life away from the United States.

Moving to Mallorca
When Amber first left America, she moved to the Spanish island of Mallorca. She soon moved to a posh neighborhood in Madrid, where a source said she “had more privacy.”
Amber opened up about her new life last summer while speaking to local news outlets on the street. In a video shared on TikTok, she said in Spanish: “I love Spain so much.” Amber was then asked if she plans to stay in Madrid, to which she replied: “Yes, I hope so. Yes, I love living here.”
Life with Oonagh
Amber shares her life in Spain with her three-year-old daughter Oonagh. In 2023, Amber returned to the screen in the independent thriller In The Fire and the film’s director Conor Allyn praised Amber for her dedication to her daughter.
He said she was “really good at making time” for Oonagh. “She’s living her best life in Spain with her daughter and finding happiness that way,” he told People magazine at the time.
Mingle with the locals
According to reports, Amber is bilingual in Spanish and is happy to be able to raise her daughter “away from all the noise.” Speaking about how she has integrated into the local population, the town’s grocer, Miguel, said: “She’s like everyone else.”
He told El Mundo: “She buys fruit and vegetables, speaks Spanish with a Mexican accent and is very polite, she always says hello to us.” He added: “Everyone here treats her like everyone else. In fact, she’s been in this town for months without anyone knowing.”
Lawsuit against Johnny Depp
Johnny Depp sued his ex-wife over a 2018 article she wrote for the Washington Post about her experiences as a survivor of domestic violence, which lawyers said accused him of being an abuser. Johnny was not named in the article.
The long legal battle ended in December 2022, with the jury returning a verdict in Johnny’s favor. Amber’s insurance company was ordered to pay Johnny $1 million (£795,000). A source close to Amber said she had decided to move to Spain in order to “have more privacy” after the defamation trial.
“The trial was beyond stressful for her and she just wanted to start the country fresh. She is excited to work and film again,” they said. Speaking to People, the source added: “She was exhausted and disappointed by the trial. She felt like she had been mistreated.”
