Huawei unveils HMS-based phone
LAHORE: Huawei is launching its first smartphone based on Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) with nearly 75,000 local mobile applications, in a step towards the end of its dependence on Google Play Store to compete in the Android market, an official said on Thursday.
“However, the most popular applications like Gmail, YouTube and others are not available on HMS, while the user can use them via HMS internet browsers,” said Scott Huang, Country Manager Huawei Pakistan, during of a media round table.
Admitting that HMS had fewer applications compared to Google Play Store which has nearly 2.9 million, Huang insisted, however, that Huawei was working and investing in Eco System and that HMS would be like Apple Store.
“The development of Eco System takes time, because Google Play Store and Eco System do not develop in a year rather than decades,” he said, stressing that HMS would not take too long to develop the ‘Eco System developed by Google.
Scott mentioned that HMS integrates daily with the application developer, in addition to integration with financial institutions and sectors to come to HMS for transparent services to their users.
