Depending on your Mac’s audio setup, the volume of alerts may be ear-splitting or too quiet to notice. Anyway, there is a way to fix this problem in macOS Sonoma.
Finding your preferred alert volume can be very useful for staying on top of notifications.
In macOS and the latest macOS Sonoma updates, there are many things that can trigger the alert chime on your Mac. Whether it’s a mistaken keystroke or a permission pop-up, these little noises highlight a number of things on your Mac that need attention.
However, the alert volume on your Mac doesn’t just affect the alert volume, as it will also affect the volume of your notifications.
If you’re using a particularly nice pair of headphones, you may find the noise unbearably loud. On the other hand, if you use a weaker speaker with your Mac, you might barely hear it.
Either way, there are a number of reasons why you might want to adjust your alert volume, and it’s very simple.
Change alert volume in macOS Sonoma
The alert volume slider is located on the first menu available in the sound settings.
- Open System settings.
- Click the tab in the sidebar to Her.
- Then adjust the slider Alert volume to adjust to the desired volume level.
One important thing to note is that in this same menu you can also change the alert sound played when it is needed, as well as change the audio device that plays the sound to begin with. Also be aware that just like the alert volume slider affects notification sounds, changing the device alerts are delivered through also affects where notifications are delivered.
If you want to turn off notifications completely, there are better options than turning off your alert volume completely. Instead, you can use focus modes or adjust settings in the Notifications menu.
