Weird home and away goof goes viral as extra awkwardly claims to chop vegetables – but TV bosses insist there is a very reasonable explanation
It is perhaps one of the oldest TV shows in Australia.
But Home and Away suffered a rookie error this week after fans noticed a bizarre detail in the background of a cafe scene.
The scene centered on two cast members having a conversation next to the salad bar, but viewers couldn’t help but notice an additional woman pretending to chop veg in the background.
The knife hovered over the cutting board as the actress made cutting motions, without actually touching the vegetables themselves.
The clip has since gone viral, with Nova FM’s Kate, Tim and Joel uploading the hilarious clip to Instagram on Monday.
“Poor actors! This extra was seen cutting a scene from Home & Away (Channel 7) in the background, ” the post captioned.
Coincidentally, one of the Nova radio hosts, Kate Ritchie, rose to fame playing Sally Fletcher on Home and Away.

Insert a hash sound here? Rather than chopping up the greens, the actor simply placed the knife over the lettuce for a few seconds.
Patrons at home and away have championed the gaff by emphasizing the practice of environmental sustainability by reusing the same vegetables for multiple takes.
Plus, the blonde woman presumably would have had to “chop veg” for a while before the scene ended.
“Thanks for watching the show. No lettuce was injured during the making of this episode. ‘#reduce #reuse #recycle’, the Home And Away Instagram page commented on Kate, Tim & Marty’s post.
