Kalib Clinton (1) of Charleston Southern is seen during a game against Longwood
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) – A former Charleston Southern University (CSU) basketball player is recovering after collapsing on the court last week.
Junior Kalib Clinton collapsed and went into cardiac arrest while playing a pickup game at CSU last Monday, according to family members.
Clinton’s mother, Shana, said he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was revived and placed on a ventilator. He is now in stable condition but suffered serious head trauma and remains in intensive care.
Shana traveled from Georgia – where Clinton is from – to be with her son in Charleston. She said the last week has been difficult, but she is grateful for the community’s support.
The family is now trying to move Clinton to a rehabilitation center in Georgia for further treatment. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family cover travel and medical expenses.
CSU officials said the university has experienced an “outpouring of love and support” following Clinton’s unexpected medical event.
“Kalib is a valued member of our CSU family, and we continue to pray for his full recovery and for providential provision for his current medical journey,” officials said in a statement to News 2. “May his life and story be a testimony to the will of God through trials and adversity.
Clinton has played in 18 games during the 2023-24 season.
