GROUP A
Next meetings, October 12: Napoli v Ajax, Rangers v Liverpool
Napoli: Will qualify with a home win/draw against Ajax.
Liverpool: Failing to qualify on matchday four, but a win against Rangers and a loss for Ajax would leave Jurgen Klopp’s men needing at most a point from their final two games.
Ajax Amsterdam: A win against Napoli would put them in a much stronger position to qualify. But defeat in Italy, coupled with a win for Liverpool, would force the Eredivisie side to win their remaining two games to have a chance of progressing.
Rangers: Still without a point in the competition, Rangers will be knocked out of the Champions League if they draw/lose at home to Liverpool.
GROUP B
Next meetings, October 12: Atletico Madrid vs Club Brugge, Bayer Leverkusen vs FC Porto
Club Brugge: Will qualify for the Round of 16 with a win/draw at Atletico. They will secure top spot in the group with a win if Leverkusen-Porto are a draw.
FC Porto: A win in Germany would put them in a stronger position, but the battle for second place in Group B is very close and Porto have just one more home game against Atletico on Matchday 6.
Bayer Leverkusen: Must win at home against FC Porto to give themselves a strong chance of qualifying, having already lost to them last week. Another defeat would leave them three points behind the Portuguese and also lose the direct head-to-head.
Atlético Madrid: The Spanish club have two more home games to play but a home loss to Club Brugge would put them in a tough position.
GROUP C
Next meetings, October 12: Barcelona against Inter Milan, Viktoria Plzen against Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich: Will qualify with a win against Plzen as long as Barca don’t beat Inter.
International : Will be finished with a victory at the Camp Nou. A draw would also be a very good result, as a home win against Plzen on Matchday 5 would send them head to head against Barca.
Barcelona: Must win at home against Inter to give themselves a realistic chance of reaching the knockout stages.
Victoria Pilsen: With no points and a goal difference of -11, Pilsen are unlikely to progress. But they will still be mathematically in contention with a loss to Bayern as long as Barca beat Inter.
GROUP D
Next meetings, October 12: Sporting CP vs Marseille, Tottenham vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Sports CP: An exceptionally tight group and no team can qualify on Matchday 4, but Sporting CP will have a foothold in the Round of 16 with a home win against Marseille.
Tottenham Hotspur: Victory over Frankfurt will give Spurs the head-to-head against the German side and it’s possible they can then qualify with a home win against Sporting on matchday five.
Eintracht Frankfurt: Much like Spurs, a win in north London gives them the head-to-head and the chance to progress by beating Marseille in two weeks.
Marseilles: The best result for Marseille is a draw between Spurs and Frankurt. But if Marseille lose against Sporting and there is a winner in the other game, the road to the round of 16 looks very difficult.
GROUP E
Next meetings, October 11: AC Milan vs Chelsea, Dinamo Zagreb vs FC Salzburg
FC Salzburg: Another very tight group that no team can get out of this week. Salzburg can move closer to the knockout stages with a win in Zagreb, and would only need a home draw against Chelsea in two weeks time should the west London club lose to Milan.
Chelsea: A win in Milan would give Chelsea a three-point lead over Milan and the head-to-head record, which would likely leave them needing one more win to progress.
AC Milan: If Milan can avoid defeat at home to Chelsea, the group will be wide open. However, they would need to win by three goals to salvage the one-on-one with Chelsea after their heavy defeat at Stamford Bridge last week.
Dinamo Zagreb: Still very much in contention, and will take second place in the group with a home win against Salzburg if Milan-Chelsea draw. Don’t rule out the Croats just yet.
GROUP F
Next meetings, October 11: Celtic v RB Leipzig, Shakhtar Donetsk v Real Madrid
Real Madrid: A draw against Shakhtar sees them through, while a win secures first place in the group.
Shakhtar Donetsk: Unable to qualify this week, and any points collected against Madrid will be considered a bonus in the battle for second place.
RB Leipzig: A win in Scotland will most likely propel them into second place, but then they must host Madrid in two weeks. Shakhtar against Leipzig in Matchday 6 seems to be the decisive game at the moment.
Celtic: A home loss to Leipzig will end their hopes, but a first group win could put them back in contention.
GROUP G
Next meetings, October 11: Borussia Dortmund vs Sevilla, FC Copenhagen vs Manchester City
Manchester City: A win sends them off, and as group winners if Dortmund draw/lose. A draw for Man City will also be enough to reach the knockout stages if Sevilla draw/lose.
Borussia Dortmund: Will end with a win as long as Copenhagen draw/lose. Even if Dortmund only draw against Sevilla, the head-to-head still likely leaves them needing just one point from their last two fixtures to qualify.
Seville: Realistically, they need to beat Dortmund to stay in contention and will be knocked out with a loss.
FC Copenhagen: Will be eliminated if they draw/lose and Dortmund beat Sevilla. Must beat Man City to have a real chance.
GROUP H
Next meetings, October 11: Maccabi Haifa vs Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain vs Benfica
Paris Saint Germain: Will qualify with a home win against Benfica.
Benfica: Thanks to a victory in Paris.
Juventus: Realistically, Maccabi Haifa need to be beaten to have the best chance of finishing in the top two with only one home game remaining, against PSG on Matchday 6.
Maccabi Haifa: Without a point so far, they will be eliminated with a home loss to Juve.
