Bayern Munich have suffered another blow ahead of their Champions League quarter-final second leg against Arsenal.
The German club drew 2-2 against the Gunners in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium this week.
This was followed by a 2-0 home win over Cologne in the Bundesliga, with Raphael Guerreiro and Thomas Muller getting on the scoresheet.
However, Thomas Tuchel is expected to be without an important player due to an injury suffered against Cologne.
The news will be a source of frustration for Tuchel as Bayern look to finish strong what has been a difficult campaign.
Tuchel will be without Kingsley Coman for the second leg against Arsenal due to an adductor muscle problem.
The winger, who was a substitute in the first leg against the Gunners, had to be replaced in the 50th minute against Cologne.
He told Sky: “The big downside to the whole game is the injury to Kingsley Coman. This makes me very sad because I know how hard he worked and how important he is to us. Serge Gnabry is first absent, then he and Leroy Sané are uncertain. [for Wednesday].’
As Tuchel alluded to, Bayern are also likely to be without another winger in Serge Gnabry.
Gnabry scored against his former club Arsenal but was then sent off in the 70th minute with a hamstring problem.
Bayern confirmed Gnabry’s absence in an official statement: “FC Bayern must do without Serge Gnabry for the moment,” the club statement said.
“The winger suffered a muscle strain in his left hamstring during the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, as confirmed by a scan carried out by the club’s medical department. FC Bayern.”
Another winger, Leroy Sané, suffers from pubic bone irritation, which prevented him from playing against Cologne. However, Sane expressed hope of being able to play against Arsenal, telling BILD: “I hope so.” This should work.
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was rested against Cologne after recently returning from a groin injury, but is expected to be able to play against Arsenal.
Commenting on Coman’s injury, Thomas Müller said Bayern had already faced injury problems at this stage of the season, such as when Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben were absent.
Müller told Sky: “It’s not the first time since I arrived here that we have lost important players towards the quarter-finals and semi-finals of the Champions League, that was the case with Rib.” [Ribéry] and Rob [Robben] from time to time’.
