On Friday, with exactly zero words of explanation, Ariana Grande deactivated her Twitter account. Before we go any further / everyone reading this turns into a living version of the 😱 emoji, let’s pause to clarify that Ari’s Instagram is still active. Do you feel a little better? Good. Now back to Ariana’s sudden and abrupt departure from Twitter.
According People, Ari’s Twitter went down on Friday afternoon and speculation about the reason for the change began pretty much immediately, with theories ranging from a reaction to cyberbullying to Ari laying the groundwork for announcing a new big project. As of Sunday afternoon, the account is still dark:
Although Ariana’s Instagram account is still live, she hasn’t directly addressed her situation there on Twitter. She didhowever, shares some Christmas wishes for fans on her IG Story, writing, “Merry Merry!!! Thinking of you all and always wishing you the warmest, happiest, and healthiest. 🙂 I love so much.”
Ariana also shared a very serious message about the importance of practicing empathy and thinking about what others might be struggling with during the holiday season, which could *maybe* indicate why she decided to take a break from Twitter.
“Someone you know is getting ready for their first Christmas without their husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister, daughter or son. Others are getting ready for their last,” reads- on in Ari’s post on his IG Story. “No matter the details, remember that this season of joy is often a season of sorrow for many. Be kind, be generous, give love, give help; if nothing else, don’t give a hard time for people.”
Of course, she also shared a pretty random photo of a foot clad in socks and sandals (possibly belonging to her husband, Dalton Gomez) in the snow, so who knows if we should read too much into her IG Story posts. ‘ potential relationship with his deactivation of Twitter.
Whatever the reason, Ariana’s decision to delete her Twitter has fans damn concerned for her well-being and her current mental and emotional health:
