Record rainfall in the United Arab Emirates didn’t stop the driver of a Pagani Utopia from taking the rare hypercar for a spin through the flooded streets of Dubai. A vehicle worth more than $2 million typically spends most of its life locked in a garage. But that is not the case here since the courageous owner was not afraid to tackle large bodies of water.
At first you could see the driver was hesitant. Well, who wouldn’t be? Finally, they decided to swim in the shallow waters. It was a risk for the owner (we assume) was ready to take. There are many things that could have gone wrong, problems that could have led to costly repairs. Even the smallest repair on a custom car like a Pagani results in a huge bill.
Although this white Nissan Patrol had no problem driving through water thanks to its raised suspension, the same cannot be said for the hypercar since it is almost glued to the road. With little or no ground clearance, the slightest road imperfection can cause problems. The person behind the wheel must have done some rough calculations in their mind before deciding to give it a try.
Utopia will be a rare sight, even in the ultra-rich city of Dubai. Pagani only makes 99 cars, all of which feature a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter AMG V-12 engine rated at 852 horsepower. Some will see the driver as a hero for having the courage to use such an expensive car in less than ideal conditions. Others would say the owner was reckless in risking serious damage to the Utopia.
We can assume that money is not an issue for the driver if he or she does not care about the potential costly consequences. The water doesn’t look that deep, but if I still had my Miata I would be hesitant to test the water, literally.
