Rumors of a Lamborghini Huracan STO emerged in June of last year when Automotive magazine wrote about the possibility of a hardcore version with the nickname “Super Trofeo Omologato” which should be released in 2020. Although they do not go into the details of the nastier version of the V10 supercar from Sant’Agata Bolognese , it looks like the track is focused on the raging bull track is happening.
Two spy photos of a wild-looking prototype were published by “Allanlambo” sure Instagram, revealing a giant wing and a large roof scoop inspired by the Huracan Super Trofeo only on the runway. The massive air inlets at the rear give the Performante or Evo a rather docile appearance in comparison, while the louvers in the rear window further signal that this is something really exciting.
According to a member of the Piston Heads Forums, The Huracan STO received the proverbial green light from senior Lamborghini officials in late 2019. It is expected to arrive in 2021MY, which means we will likely be able to see it before the end of the current calendar year. Essentially a road version of the Huracan Super Trofeo race car, the rear-drive STO would carry the Huracan Evo’s 5.2-liter V10 5.2-liter V10 engine, but the car will experience significant weight loss.
Lamborghini is apparently aiming for a diet of around 150 kilograms (330 pounds), which would tip the Huracan STO scale to around 1,272 kg (2,804 pounds, dry) if we remove that fat from a Huracan Evo Coupé. If this number turns out to be correct, the STO will be approximately 117 kg (258 lb) lighter than the Huracan Evo Coupe RWD.
Stronger brakes and a few other race-inspired upgrades might be up to par with the Super Trofeo Omologato, but it’s too early to be sure.
Another member of the PH The forums heard from a Lamborghini dealer that the company originally wanted to sell the car exclusively to customers of Squadra Corse, just like Ferrari did with the 488 Pista Piloti. However, it should now be a typical special edition with limited production. The exact number is not known at this point, with some claiming that 700 will be built while others say it will only be limited to 400 units.
Nothing is official at this point, but Lamborghini would not be expected to go out with a Huracan Evo Performante because its role in training has been assigned to the STO.
While the Super Trofeo Omologato is supposed to be a road racing car, the 830 horsepower Aventador will be just the opposite, as the Lamborghini Squadra Corse will transform the legal V12 hypercar on the street into a track beast only.
