Liverpool would gladly sacrifice EVERY competition, even the Champions League, to be crowned Premier League champion this season, said Danny Murphy.
Another trophy is now out of reach of the Reds as Jurgen Klopp’s men were eliminated from the FA Cup by Chelsea.
The 2-0 loss to Stamford Bridge was Liverpool’s second straight loss and the third in four games, the former creeping form of the Reds disappearing.
Liverpool remain 22 points ahead of the table and need only four more wins – 12 points – to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time.
But Klopp’s team hasn’t looked the same since they returned from their winter vacation, and their collapse has raised fears that this season will end in absolute disaster.
Their defense of the Champions League is also uncertain before the home game of their round of 16 match against Atletico Madrid, in which they lead 1-0 against the Spaniards.
But, unlike this Liverpool supporter, Murphy sees no reason to panic.
Former Reds midfielder says reaction to Liverpool’s recent performances has been “exaggerated” and insists that losing streak and even being kicked out of Europe doesn’t matter as long as they win the league.
Reacting to the result against Chelsea, Murphy said at the talkSPORT sports breakfast: “The best team won overall, but Liverpool can take some positive points.
“It was a better performance than against Watford and, since in the last two rounds he played against weakened teams, I don’t think Jurgen Klopp will be too distraught that he is out.
“I think it was overkill in terms of the relevance of some of the losses.
“Let’s put it in perspective: Liverpool have not won the league in 30 years! The demand to win the league is huge now and it’s almost over, it’s almost beyond the line.
“All Liverpool fans on the planet would have gladly sacrificed all cup competitions, including the Champions League, to push the championship through this season.
“The fact that they did it so convincingly and so comfortably, I think the fans get a little greedy and think,” in fact, we could win the Champions League again. “
“But at the start of the season, almost every Liverpool fan on the planet would have said,” This is the league this year and that’s it, “they would take it with open arms and catch it.
“So I don’t think Liverpool fans are the ones who are worried.
“Yes, the performances have not been excellent; Jordan Henderson misses them, Fabinho does not regain his physical form and there are a few small problems.
“But in the end, they’re going to win the Premier League and it’s the Holy Grail for Liverpool Football Club.”
