Harvey Elliott can’t seem to hurt in his first season as a Liverpool player, the red half of Merseyside really taking over the former Fulham wonderkid.
The forward signed for the Reds for an undisclosed amount this summer and has continued to progress at a rapid pace after becoming the youngest player to play in the Premier League at just 16 years and 30 days old.
Although he played a key role in Liverpool’s embarrassment of bitter rival Everton in the FA Cup third round earlier this season, the winger was not included in the team for the draw against Chelsea against Chelsea Tuesday night.
Instead, he traveled with the U-19s for their UEFA Youth League clash against Benfica and made sure to get involved quickly and not let the disappointment of missing an action from first team get to him.
Trailing 3-0 on the Portuguese side, Elliott helped the young Reds claim a lifeline with superb help for Tyler Morton. And it was the passionate reaction afterwards that will make Elliott really love the fans at home.
As the teenager ran to retrieve the ball and restart the game, he pushed the much larger opposition goalkeeper into the net and squared for him; that was his determination to relaunch the match.
It is this passion and determination that should see the prodigy rewarded with a new contract at Anfield until 2023, and made him loved by team leader Jurgen Klopp.
“He’s exceptionally talented, absolutely, and he’s also a nice kid,” Klopp told their club’s website.
“To see him how he encouraged the crowd in the corners. To be honest, I had a few moments when I was really touched tonight. It’s really cool.”
