Conor Benn has taken to social media to apologize after his fight with Chris Eubank Jr was postponed.
News broke on Wednesday that the 26-year-old had tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene during a voluntary doping test in August.
Both fighters were happy it was still taking place at the O2 Arena on Saturday, but the British Boxing Board of Control said they would ban it.
A few 11th-hour squabbles made no difference with an official announcement saying the fight was over on Thursday afternoon.
Benn has since taken to social media to shed some light on the situation and apologize to everyone.
“I am truly disgusted that we are not able to get this fight to happen on Saturday and I am sorry to everyone affected by this postponement,” he said in a statement.
“I’m still shocked by this and shocked by this, and it’s been a tough few days.
“My team and I will be considering the next options, including postponing the flight, but my immediate goal is to clean up my name as I am a clean athlete!”
A statement released Thursday by Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Sauerland’s Wasserman Boxing reads: “After discussions with various parties, we have made the decision to officially postpone the fight between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn.
“There is no denying that the decision of the British Boxing Board of Control to withdraw their sanction was tainted with procedural flaws and without due process.
“This remains a legal issue between the promoters and the board which we intend to pursue.
“However, while there are legal avenues to facilitate the fight to proceed as planned, we do not believe it is in the interest of the fighters for them to be prosecuted at such a late stage, or in the wider sport interest.
“As promoters, we take our obligations and duties very seriously, and a full investigation will now have to take place.
“We will be making no further comment at this time and information on refunding ticket holders will follow.”
